C B 4

CB4 came out in 1994 as a comedy film. This was directed by Tamra Davis. The film starred Chris Rock. The film is based on the rap group known as CB4. The name came as a result of  where the group was supposedly formed in a prison block (cell block 4). The film features musicians and celebrities including Eazy-E, Halle Berry, Ice Cube, Ice-T, Butthole, Flavor Flav, Surfers and Shaquille O’Neal. The presence of these celebrities gives very high reviews to the movie.

Chris Rock plays Albert, Allen Payne plays Euripides and Deezer D plays Otis. These are three young aspiring rap friends who want to make it big in the world of rap. They want to spread their names and get a big break so they appeal to Gusto, played by Charlie Murphy who is the nightclub owner and crime kingpin. During one of their meetings the police bust in and throw Gusto into jail. Gusto thinks that the group has set him up and swears revenge upon his release from prison. However, during Gusto’s incarceration Albert steals Gusto’s identity and criminal background to become MC Gusto and forms the rap group known as CB4. Some of the hottest singles CB4 releases during this time are ‘Straight Outta Locash’ and ‘Sweat From My Balls’. They become huge and rise to new heights. Their fame is documented by a young director played by Chris Elliot.

Phill Hartman plays an ambitious politician who wants to shut down their music as a result of the obscenities appearing in their songs. There is also tension within the group as one member’s girlfriend is known to be a gold digger. The tension takes a toll on the group as well as on the life of Albert and his relationship with his girlfriend Daliha played by Rachel True. Gusto escapes from prison and goes on his mission to take revenge on the trio. He sets a plan in motion where Albert is making an appearance as MC Gusto, but the plan fails and Gusto is sent right back to prison with a life sentence. Soon Albert realizes that his life has taken the wrong turn and gives up pretending to be a gangster and instead reunites with the group. The film ends with the happy trio set to go on tour.
